Brian Ramon Humphrey, Psy.D., MSCP

Licensed Clinical and Prescribing Psychologist
Professional Summary

Dr. Brian Ramon Humphrey, Psy.D., MSCP, is an accomplished Licensed Clinical and Prescribing Psychologist and the founding CEO of PsychSynergy Behavioral Health Services, LLC in Chicago, Illinois. With over a decade of clinical and executive experience, Dr. Humphrey has demonstrated a sustained commitment to advancing integrative, evidence-based behavioral health care within marginalized communities. His private practice specializes in delivering culturally responsive individual, family, and marital therapy, psychological assessment, and consultation, while also functioning as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration and care coordination.

Dr. Humphrey’s clinical foundation spans diverse healthcare systems, including his tenure as a Behavioral Health Psychologist at Cook County Health and Lawndale Christian Health Center, where he led initiatives integrating behavioral health into primary care using the Behavioral Health Consultation model. He played a critical role in clinical training for medical residents and support staff and contributed to high-impact public health programming, such as the HRSA Healthy Start Initiative and the ACPM Reducing Hypertension Demonstration Project. His leadership as Director of the Men’s Health Initiative at Cook County Health further illustrates his expertise in developing community-centered interventions that address the psychosocial and systemic determinants of health among African American men.

His early experience in forensic settings, including at the Illinois Department of Corrections, provided a strong foundation in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and trauma-informed care within correctional institutions. As a postdoctoral resident with Adler Community Health Services, he delivered therapeutic services to high-need populations through community partnerships with Heartland Alliance, Safer Foundation, and St. Leonard’s Ministries.

In addition to clinical leadership, Dr. Humphrey is a dedicated educator, currently serving as an Assistant Professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and an Associate Professor at Adler University. He teaches graduate-level courses on clinical interviewing, diversity, ethics, psychological assessment, and personality theory, and has supervised numerous students in practicum and residency placements.

Dr. Humphrey is among Illinois’ pioneering prescribing psychologists, having completed his medical residency through AMITA Health, fulfilling statutory training requirements for prescriptive authority. His practice philosophy is rooted in holistic, trauma-informed, and community-responsive care, emphasizing collaborative treatment planning and systemic advocacy.

A trusted speaker, consultant, and public health strategist, Dr. Humphrey has advised on multiple institutional committees, including the Trauma-Informed Approaches Taskforce and Non-Physician Provider Credentialing Board. His work is distinguished by a deep understanding of cultural humility, behavioral science, and community empowerment, positioning him as a leading voice in integrative mental health practice and transformative leadership.
